WPCentral Question

I bought a PC in the U.S. with pre-installed W7 and then exported it to Mexico. Trying to do an OS upgrade while in Mexico, I am being notified my OS is not legal in Mexico and I must get a Legalization Kit for my PC. This will cost me as much as if I purchase a brand new W8 OS. Is this correct? Is there a way I can defend my W7 is valid regardless I bought the PC in a different country from where I currently reside/use it?

It sounds as if the copy of Windows you have is not Genuine. I'm not sure where your PC came from originally and if that might be the root cause. If your install was Genuine you should not have this issue. Contact the vendor who sold you the PC. I don't believe it has anything to do with relocating the machine...

What, exactly, does the message say? Does it specify your License is invalid for Mexico? Or does it say your License is invalid, end of statement?

Non-genuine systems will update to Win 10 soon and have a watermark to indicate their non-genuine status. At that time Microsoft will be making License acquisition "very attractive."
