Windows Central Question

Today a friend has told me that her Android 'phone has a virus and her texts have been infected. She is telling all her contacts to delete all their past texts from all their contacts and to text all contacts to warn them to do the same and to text her when they have done so!

Can I get a virus on my WinPhone, running Windows 8, from a text sent from an Android Smart Phone?

It's unlikely to have infected your phone for two reasons:

1) Windows Phone employs data silos and sandboxes for apps. Plus there's no known Text Message exploit at this present time, the last one was just a simple Worm Crasher.

2) Any code written for Android is unlikely to work on Windows Phone unless it redirects to a Malware Toolkit page to scan for vulnerabilities.

TL:DR? You're about 99% safe, as there's no such thing as 100% safe.
