So I've had my Lumia 920 since December and no major issues until yesterday. For some reason I quit receiving SMS. I can send just fine. Also, can only get calls from AT&T customers . I had AT&T on chat and they tried what they knew and had to create a case and escalate it. Kinda hoping somebody else has had this problem and and can tell me what - if anything - they did to fix it ?

Kinda crazy. I figure it's an AT&T issue, but it can't hurt to ask.

Of course, this might be an excuse to get a 1020. :D

Power down the phone, bring it back up. My phone did that for a few days, then started working again. Not sure what it was but I suspected an ATT issue. It cleared itself up a few months back and all is well

Yep. I've been doing that on and off this evening. I even removed the SIM and brought it back up without one, hoping to shake it to it's senses. :) poor me at the mercy of AT&T. haha! Thanks for the suggestions!

Are your friends sending you the SMS also on AT&T, or do they have other carriers? Perhaps the problem is with your friends' carriers, not AT&T.

Had this problem before on my Lumia 900 in fact it happened twice on the stock rom (updated seems to have fixed it, so it might be different for WP8). It happened because I tried to download an MMS with the data off then ATT went all weird on me. The fix for me was to delete the offending thread. So maybe you might want to clean out your conversations in the Messaging hub and see if that does it.

Similar thing happened to me on my old HTC Radar but it was on T-Mobile. I restarted it and sometimes I put it in airplane mode and turn it back on and voila. Doubt it was my coverage since I was at home where I got full "4G" bars. I'm thinking maybe its a reception issue on the phone itself? A small hiccup? Idk but my current Nokia 810 has not done that.

Is it safe to assume AT&T checked your APN settings? Just a stab but it has been the culprit with MMS on phones for me in the past.

Its usually only relevant on unlocked phones where you have to manually input the APN settings but it did happen to me on an AT&T phone I had.

I had that problem when I FIRST got my Lumia 920. Apparently AT&T had deleted my texting on accident. After 3 days without text messages, a call to tell them my situation, they fixed the problem AND they gave me unlimited texting for $10/month FOREVER. It wouldn't hurt to see it they did the same thing. Maybe they can hook you up too.

I have an HTC One. Just noticed I was not receiving SMS or MMS. I have a permission manger app and had the SMS/MMS permissions set wrong. I'm working now...just a suggestion.

I had the same problem with my 925. I checked everything against another identical working phone and found no difference, not in the settings, numbers, nothing. The only difference was that one phone received and sent text and the other just received. Turned on and off, reset...nothing. In the end, I plugged the phone into a charger and all of the days text came pouring in.

Hope this helps.

I am.currently having this problem with my 640. Last night it was working fine, then I tried to send a few messages and they kept bouncing back and telling me to try again. However, my boyfriend was receiving the messages even though it was telling me they werent going through. This morning, texts are going out just fine, no bouncing back or try again messages but sine the trouble began, even though outgoing messages were going through, I have not been able to receive any incoming texts. Ive tried restarting the phone, removing the battery, taking the SIM out and putting it back in...

Same thing is happening to me right now, started yesterday afternoon. Tried a lot of what's been suggested in this thread other than hard reset. On a 950 with T-Mobile.
