Can Xbox One games be played on an Xbox 360 console

I want to buy games from both Xbox One and 360 range but only have an Xbox 360 console. Can Xbox One games be played on the 360 console

No. And only certain 360 games can be played on the One. You can Google the list.

Welcome to the forums. The hardware on the One is different from the 360, making the 360 unable to read XB1 games. The fact that XB1 can read backwards is something MS enabled on the XB1.

Backward compatibility is like how a newer computer can read older programs (to an extent) but not the other way around.

I love all the answers lol. There are still some pretty cool titles on 360 and chances are you can snatch them for a lot less now on amazon or ebay. If you have the money to spare and are serious about gaming, then I'd say upgrade to the 1.

Otherwise just enjoy the 360 for some time and pass it along to someone in the family when you're done. There are other things you can do with it.. the best that comes to mind is a dedicated media center.

Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can still get a gold xbox subscription which will allow you to play games free every month

They offer a few titles every month for a reduced price, if not free. However, I am wondering if you are thinking of Game Pass? It's like the Netflix for XBox titles.

Lol I could be.. Passed my 360 on to my little brothers about a year ago, so haven't been active in that space. Still need to replace it with sth new

Unfortunately the Xbox 360 has different architecture and cannot play Xbox One games. The Xbox One though can play certain Xbox 360 games, so perhaps time for an upgrade?
