I was just wondering if anyone knows if I can install Windows 10 as a clean install on my PC and then use my Windows 8 key or whether I have to kick-off the Windows 10 upgrade from within Windows 8.

I would much rather format and install Windows 10 fresh from a disc.

As far as I am aware. You have to do the upgrade first. Then you can do a clean install using an ISO or using the "reset" function in Windows.

I would do the upgrade, then check your key using a keyfinder and make a note of your new Windows 10 key just incase. Better then taking the risk of installing and getting stuck, although the installer usually asks for the key before you do any formatting so wouldn't hurt to download the ISO and boot into it.
