Cannot open Phone Settings menu

Hi,

I'm setting up a Nokia Lumia 800 which I bought off ebay, I think its unlocked because the carier logo does not appear on boot. I inserted the SIM today and everything works, but I cannot access the Phone Settings. It just does nothing, any ideas on how to fix this? Does the acrier have to send a update to the phone or something? I'm on T-Mobile UK

Problem solved, did a hard reset...should have done that first before posting lol

Rule when buying a new phone even new in box is to hard reset before using it.
