Can't connect to visual voicemail while on wifi calling?

Hi, we just got a Lumia 521 on T-mobile. Great phone, but discovered another annoyance. For some reason, if it's on wifi calling, visual voicemail says it can't connect. It only syncs if you turn off wifi calling and get cell data signal. This is not ideal as the phone is quite often in low to no cell signal areas. Has anyone else experienced this and come up with a fix?
