Can't login to windows 10 anymore - not getting wrong password or anything

[Windows Central Question]

I tried to jump on my computer this morning and when typing in my password it spins for about 20 seconds and then I get the first screen again (where it's waiting for you to press something to present you a login). Nothing happens. Doesn't matter what I type in it does the same thing. No forgot password links or anything.

It has worked just fine for a year. Has anyone ever seen this? Is there a way to reformat without ever logging in? (I kind of want to anyway). I have gone through the bios and boot options but I can't figure out a way to make it not do what it's doing.

Hi Welcome to Windows Central. I suggest you boot into the Advanced Startup. You will find many ways to recover. Here's link from HTG!

If your PC isn’t loading Windows 10 and you don’t have the operating system installation files, you can use the following trick.

Start your computer and follow the POST, when Windows should begin loading, press the power button to shutdown your computer.

Repeat the previous step twice, and in the third restart the operating system should enter into the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE), where a number of diagnostics will be performed to try fix any booting issues, but you will also get an option to access the Windows Startup Settings.

Hi friend! Thanks for joining this thread. Your suggestion is good; but only if the OP created a system repair disk or a system rescue drive. I really doubt if that happened.
The off and on 3 times should produce the same results. What is needed is to get to the Advanced Startup mode. The "Repair your computer" is a good place to start. Not sure about "Revert your system to a previous build" Team work is good!

I'm not certain, but this may have damaged your device.

On a serious note, have you tried logging in using safemode? Definitely try and repair your system before taking drastic measures.

Thanks for joining this thread my friend. LMAO. Jumping on computer is differently not the way I would suggest fixing the issue. Booting into safe mode is always a great solution. Some times that is hard to do with w10 and w8.1! here's link from HTG. that might help you get into safe mode.:smile:

Actually, an install disk should offer Repair as an option, so long as it matches the "bitedness" and version (Home/Pro/Enterprise) it would work.

I agree a installation disc would offer repair as a option. I'm assuming you're talking about a media creation toll, which is the way you would get a W10 installation disc unless you buy W10. You can make your own system repair disc and a system rescue drive also, but very few people ever do that.

Using a Recovery Drive or System Repair Disc

A recovery drive will normally not be necessary. If your computer fails to boot several times, Windows 8 or 10 will automatically bring up the advanced startup options, which allows you to troubleshoot and fix it.

If Windows can’t even bring up these tools, you’ll need the recovery drive, system repair disc, or a Windows 8 or 10 installation disc. Insert the recovery media into your computer and restart. Your computer should boot from the recovery media automatically. (If it doesn’t, you may need to change its boot order.)
