cant view sd card

hi all
i just got the lumia 520 and getting to grips with it, i can access the phone and the sd card on my pc, i wanted to try put a personal ring tone on the phone. so i made a folder with a few ringtons and also i put some windows mobile app on the sd card
it still wont show up on the phone,and i see the sd card with a file explorer but not the ringtones or apps folder, only my music and doc folders
i would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction to solve this

I think that the ringtones' genre section must be filled with "ringtone", as far as I know... Apps are available through Store and then tap SD Card.

Your phone may only recognise files if they're in the places it expects to find them. I believe the apps need to be in the root of the SD card, not inside a folder, and the ringtones need to go in the Ringtones folder which only exists in the phone's internal memory - it doesn't create one on the SD card.

ringtones should be in the ringtones folder.
although music(read songs) can be in a foldered structure anywhere on the card/internal storage
