change lock screen settings?

is there any way to have my phone go to its home screen immediately upon pressing the power button (ort double-tapping the screen)?
I like that it locks automatically (or at least goes into a standby mode), but I don't need/wish to go through a two-step process to wake up the phone.

Nope, for now. Although you can suggest and vote for new features in windows 10,so, there's your shot. Honestly is don't think its a big deal just to swipe your screen after pressing the power button.

you are right, it's not a big deal - but it's one of those things that "the other guys" can do and I can't.
