For the past two weeks my phone has been unable to charge without the cable being put in at an angle. I tried multiple chargers with the same results. Today it finally seems my makeshift charger(paper towel underneath to bend it and a small weight ontop of the phone) will not work anymore. I am trying to figure out what my next steps are. I of course have the Nokia Lumia 822, but I have some questions:
1) Will Nokia/Microsoft fix my phone if I send it to them? (Small fee?), and I don't have a warranty because my phone was bought on ebay.
2)Is there anyway I can not need a charging shell for the phone? Paying for the charger and the cover would be like $60, and my dad will make ME pay for it, but I also have to pay for phone bills. (I have about $140)
3)Anywhere to get good deals on the wireless stuff?
Any other advice is appreciated thanks.

Acquire a second hand one that's bricked, on the proviso the charging socket isn't directly connected to the main logic board. If it's not, just swap the boards over.

As you got it second hand Nokia probably won't honour any outstanding warranties as you aren't the original owner.

Last resort: just get a working second hand one from somewhere.

My phones old issue, go for wireless charging plate, cause if you go for nokia care they will tell nothing wrong with it,but i found an app called diagnostic try using it to find the "current while charging" the phone if it shows discharging even while charging then something wrong with phone or charger, until then place some weight at end of usb cable connected to phone& also put some weight on phone at same time

bump? thanks for responses, need more advice, and more questions answered please. And I already tried the pressure method for past two weeks but it no longer works.

My 822 finally stopped charging at all 2 days ago. Three months to go on the contract. Talked to a guy at Best Buy and came to the conclusion that for 3 months my best option was to get a charger for the external battery. Ducks that I have to keep removing the battery, but should work OK with the way I use my phone. If I need a second battery, I will get one from eBay. Charger will be here today or tomorrow.

Before the 822 I had a Touch Pro 2. Yesterday I saw that Verizon has the M8 as a WP8.1 - that will be my next phone!

Thank you so much that is a perfect idea.

What brand did you buy and what should I buy?

I just did a search on ebay for Nooks Lumia 822 battery charger, and found someone selling them for just under $10. I paid for next day shipping, and it arrived next day. It's not a brand I know. I will have to get back to you on that. First charge took a while, but by using it just as a phone, with the occasional text, it will go all day without needing a recharge. All the auto updates have been shut down for now. Kinds hard to keep the fingers off the screen, but the alternatives are too costly!

Edit: just checked - it says UBOC on the charger. Adjustable pins, and you have to get the battery set up in it before you plug it in.

Guys, just a quick tip before spending money. A couple months ago I had the same issue as OP's. I was going nuts trying to figure it out. Finally I found the solution. Clean the around the usb connection on the phone itself. You'll need to get a needle and clean around it. I was surprise on how much lint was stuck in there. I suggest trying that.

Thank you all very much, I didn't realize I had replies, I will try all these solutions and let you know what works for me. Wish me luck.

Thanks, but I think this actually would have worked, but I have been bending the charger in it every night to make it charge that I think I have broken the port. While I was cleaning with the needle I did notice lots of lint but I also began to notice that I could push it in and out. It seems my whole charging port is loose and when I plug a charger in, it goes too deep. I have been bending the charger for at least a month and a half and I think that might be the problem.

I will try this next, but hopefully I can get a reply from you today. So, charging just the battery makes it run down faster? I need to be able to make it at least 8 hours with occasional music listening accounted for as well as few texts, but I will mostly be in school throughout the day. How long did it take to charge? I usually charge my phone over night so, if it can charge in at most 6 hours or so it will be ok

Even the 822 one is universal. The position of the contacts can be changed. Just be aware that there is no clear indicator of how much the battery is charged until you put it back into the phone. Also, it is slow.

1. clean the port out to make sure its not just dust or lint..
2. buy a used 822 on ebay ..around 60$ and use that phone or swap the mother board
3. buy a new port from ebay...aroudn 2$ and have someone take out the loose one and solder the new one
4. feeling adventurous---look on YouTube and see the *heat gun* soldering method... either it Works and your set... or you have to get another phone because you broke it
