Checked out the 930..

Went to a local gadget store to try out the much hyped 930. After testing it through, I can't see any reason why should an 1020 owner buy it. Well yes, it does have alot faster picture to picture time, and bit bigger screen but that really doesn't impress me enough. People who want most new hw will be making the switch, no matter how you try to reason them.
For me, the 1020 goes very nicely next few years. It could be the next device will be phablet.

I think 1020 is still in a great place. It has sufficient hardware to remain quite snappy for the future, while also still boasting the best camera in a smartphone. It has that extra GB of ram compared to a 920 (I was contemplating between getting a 930 or a 1020 as a budget solution as my next phone) which further future proofs it.

I don't think the 930 is even trying to be the "next logical step" if you have the 1020 already, in fact I would think many 1020 owners might have a hard time justifying the "upgrade", so I don't really blame you for that.

As a 920 owner it's not a huge upgrade either, but it still looks, feels and work amazing based on my short tests, it's hard to resist even if I have no real need to upgrade from my 920 yet.

Don't forget the 930 offers 1080p, although I don't think it pretends to be a successor to the 1020. A true successor to the 1020, with the same 41mp camera, or better, and a 1080p display, would be very welcome.

I'm kinda the opposite. I'm impressed by the 930/Icon. Seems lighter, its def thinner, solid & well made, etc. That screen & the shot to shot time is way better too.

I love my 1020 & the photos it produces, but I do miss a lot of shots by the time I wait for the camera to fire up, focus & finally snap. I don't mind taking a slight hit in quality if it means being a much better experience.

Try the camera first before you'd buy the 930 - I think as a 1020 user you will be disappointed even if its not that much differents. I've read much about that with users switching to 1520..
I had the iPhone 5S this year together with my 1020 - I thought I could do better macro shots with the bigger pixels on the iPhones sensor, and much faster shot-to-shot time, but I got disappointed very much. The 1020 still blows it up.

And damn the 1020 is too sexy anyway..

Tried the 1520 for a week before sending it back due to the screen sensitivity issue. I found the camera to be a lot noisier than my 1020 and pictures just didnt seem as detailed or sharp. I dont think anything other than a true successor will be good enough to replace the 1020.

Its not a 1020 successor. Latest rumor/leak says 20MP camera.

People are putting way too much hype on the McLaren.

I am also not sure whether Microsoft builds another completely dedicated camera phone or not. By just looking at all those numbers and statistics released by several companies, the Lumia 1020 is everything but a well selling device. If numbers are correct, it's way less than 920 and 925. Considering this I am not even really surprised about those EOL reports after not even a single year.

In terms of success the 1020 seems to be a pure marketing related story. It created good to very good reports on the media and is something to show. Unfortunately the masses don't seem to be attracted by such a device.

Of course one reason could be the not updated specs: Quite some people were disappointed a year ago that Nokia, after the 925, was still selling the 920 internals on a new phone. Would it already have featured the Icon specs, everything might've went better after all.

I'm sure availability had alot to do with 1020 sales.

I think an updated version of the 1020 would sell better. More up to date hardware, a more feature rich and polished OS, etc... It just needs to be available across more carriers and immediately.

I think a much faster phone as well for 930. Yes, camera is not on par with 1020 41MP at all for sure. But after using my 1520, day to day operations are much much faster than 1020. I can feel much faster with app launching as well as other operations. Even animations are better on a snapdragon 800. Sometimes, is not just about the camera for a smart phone.

It all depends on each persons own preferences and requirements. For some speed and performance of the 1020 is decent enough plus they got the great camera. For others performance might be too slow and in addition they might not really need such a powerful camera, those will really consider getting a newer WP8 phone like the 1520.

After tinkering for years on android custom roms where speed of animations were customizable,I don't really need the difference of 0.1-0.5 sec in between Lumia phones but as said, it is everyone's own preferences and requirements. For me the OS is butter smooth and fast. Plus the camera is great. Thus no need to upgrade hardware.
