So my friend has an iPhone, and i want to send him a location, knowing that he is technologically ******** i thought of so many ways of how to send him the location without giving him a headache, so that he can easily open the GPS and start driving, but i failed.

On the bright side, i sent him a here maps link on Whatsapp. then i clicked the link to see what will it do, and it opened here maps (the app). is this a Whatsapp thing, or a system thing. i have never seen such behaviour before. it seems like it sends me to the web browser first, then it starts here maps.

will this ever be available for instagram, twitter, facebook... etc.

And, any suggestion on how to send him the location would be awesome? :D

For the location, just send him the coordinates, idk..
Also that's a website thing, it sends a request to open an app. Other sites can do it, tho I don't see it often.

For Windows Phone, it's been there at least since WP8 (my WP7 is not Lumia)
It's the same way that clicking PDF file opens it in Adobe Reader, or clicking link to Windows Store from Windows 8 automatically opens the apps even though you want to browse the website.

CMIIW, this is the more detailed version: Windows Phone 8 - AppURL
