Coming from Lumia 720. Is the Lumia 830 worth it?

As per the title, I'm coming from a Lumia 720 and am currently thinking of an upgrade. Especially the camera and the 1GB RAM
The games I play are like Asphalt 8 and it really is laggy on the Lumia 720

With the processor of the Lumia 830 (Snapdragon S400 I think?) will it be able to handle it?

I was considering the L930 but due to no Glance. I turned it down almost immediately

Now just wait for it to be released in Malaysia and check the price

The 830 costs 330?+tax. There is not much you have to add to get a 930. To be exact, the Lumia 930 can be bought for 395?+tax on Amazon.de.

Wait at least for the real pricing of the 830. It will drop fast and hard.

Edit: Glance is nice, but so us hands free Cortana activation and 4k video. Two features which will never come to the 830.

I can live without the hotword activation and 4K Video, since there's no 4K display from where I come from, 3rd World Country

I'll just see the real pricing when it comes to where I am and compare it with the 930.
Am hoping for a L1020 successor though

I think it's a tough call. If your biggest concern is an improved camera, yes. If you're wanting Asphalt 8 to run better, I'd say no. Both the Lumia 720 and the 830 run the same GPU, the Adreno 305, and at the same 450-MHz clock. So, if graphics are the reason that the game runs poorly on the 720, the 830 will not fix that. If the CPU side is what bogs down the game (which I can't say, because I don't know the benchmarks of those chips or the hardware load of the game), the 830 will help. If it's true that the 1320 runs the game flawlessly, if should run just fine on the 830, as the 1320 shares that Adreno 305 GPU as well, and does so at the same 720p resolution as the 830.

So, all of that said, you're probably going to get better performance in the game with the 830, but with the same GPU as the 720, it's not guaranteed, and any gains might not be significant. I'd call the 830 a decent upgrade over the 720, but not a must-have when the 930 (as someone else mentioned) isn't far from the price tag the 830 is expected to carry.

If you can squeeze out the extra cash for a 930, I think it would be well worth it. If it's too much, I think that the 830 will work as a decent upgrade to the 720.

As far as I know, the 830 has integrated Wireless charging compared to my current 720 which needs a Wireless Charging Case to work, right?

I don't know if there is a wireless charging case for the 720. However, the 830 is set to have Qi wireless charging built in, yes. I don't know where you are or which carrier you use, but AT&T is taking the Qi charging out of devices it sells now because they support the PMA charging standard, so if you're on there, you would not get wireless charging in the 830.

However since the removable/replaceable back panel has the wireless charging loop in it, I'd expect a simple panel swap to fix that. Even if AT&T don't sell it with Qi.

Both Lumia 720 and 830 have the same GPU that is Adreno 305 which is weaker than 2+ year old Adreno 225 of Lumia 820, 920,925 etc.. So, you should try and upgrade to 930/1520 if possible as unlocked 1520 prices have dropped a lot in all the countries.

Such a statement assumes that they will be sold separately. Even if it is possible, then it negates the comparison of built-in vs. add-on against the 720, if you're on AT&T. More importantly, if the back plates are not sold separately (and AT&T doesn't pull a Verizon and change the devices shape, to keep the plates from being replaceable with another device's), it means you'd have to buy a broken device on eBay and take that plate, while also hoping that you manage to have a user total a phone without doing any damage to the plate (I wouldn't buy a scratched-up plate to get wireless charging myself).

The 1520 is too big for my hands

No 830 is overpriced and totally not worth getting. L930 is the only proper upgrade from L720 if you find L1520 to be too big.

Great deal

IF (only you can answer this) you can wait until Windows 9 devices then wait. Else you are buying something with a short support life span.

my 720 handles games like asphalt 8 pretty well without lag except for one map where it glitches out for 2 secs dunno how you found it laggy
anyways back to topic- the 830 is a worthy upgrade over the 720 except maybe battery life and the unibody design of the 720
it has more ram and an S400 and should improve performance by a fair margin
btw if you think your games are lagging on the 720,try a hard reset and move everything to sd card,i did that and installed everything to sd card
hope i helped :)

More like frame skip actually, I've did a hard reset and moved it to SD-Card, it became worse. I guess that's because of my Class 3 SDCard.
Anyways thanks for the suggestion, I think I might overlook the size and get a 1520 instead for battery life and since it has almost the same spec as the Lumia 930
