Computer Won't Detect Phone

Anyone else having problems connecting their 928 to the computer? I recently got a replacement, because I cracked the screen on my old 928 and now this new one won't connect to my PC via USB. I've tried the Windows Phone app from the store and the desktop version and neither version detects that my phone is plugged in via USB, yet under the My Computer tab I can clearly see it connected and it's charging just fine.

Really frustrating trying to transfer my pictures over to my PC.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried updating the drivers, reinstalling the software and restarting both my phone and computer.

Running Windows 8.1.

Yeah. Using the original USB cable. Also, tried it on my netbook and it seems to randomly work. Sometimes the software recognizes it and sometimes it doesn't.

I've seen this before when it was a problem with the USB port on the device. Seems odd in light of the fact that you just got a replacement, but was your replacement new or a refurb?

just a shot in the dark, but is the phone unlocked at the time? (as in passcode entered)

Every USB connection issue that I've had has been because of the cable.
I've gone through so many USB cables, over the years.
My HTC cable is frayed, just from the bending of it hanging off the shelf.

I've had pretty good luck with the Micro USB cable from Monster. 14 bucks for a 1.5 foot cable but worth it.
