SOLUTION! - add a comma

NEW PROBLEM - How do I switch the virtual keyboard from numbers to the Qwerty letters when entering a phone number so I may add a comma - I can only "paste" the comma after copying it from a previous txt screen.

Original Post:
Just got a Lumia 710
In contacts, phone numbers area to be precise, why can I NOT enter () chars and NOT get it to auto dial extensions by adding *1234 or x1234 ??

other phones use p / t letters but for the life of me I can't add letters!!

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Are you saying that you don't want the phone to dial:

607-555-555

Like you don't want it to dial the 607 and just dial 555-5555?

What happens is when I edit a contact's phone number, the virtual keyboard is ONLY numbers with the exception of . - # *

I'd like to know how to witch to the Qwerty keyboard layout so I may add a comma, which in turn causes a pause for when dialing an extension at work. 555-555-5555 ,5555

I don't think it's possible but maybe someone else has heard of a work around.

Have you tried using the "Space" or "Dash" to enter in the extension part?

Yes, I've tried . - # *
none of those work... so I copy / pasted the comma "," and it works.

Annoying really, they'll add it as an extra character on displayed keyboard in an update soon I'm sure.

Thanks anyway, much obliged!

I didn't know pasting the comma was possible. I'll try and keep that in mind in case someone asks again.

extensions in contacts for Lumia 710.

I don't know if this response is too late.
You should enter the regular phone number.
Then keep your finger on the period, until the comma appears.
You should add one comma for a 2 second delay, 2 commas for 4 seconds and so on.
Save it.
If for some reason it doesn't work this way, enter and save the phone # without extension.
Go back and edit and save the # using the trick of keeping youe finger on the period.

Thanks
