I have some old home videos that were filmed in the VHS times and I want to preserve them by copying them as video files. Are there any good devices and software to do this?

What you need is a VCR (obviously :p) and a composite video to USB capture device like this one:

Diamond Multimedia VC500 One Touch Video Capture Device VC500 - Best Buy

There are tons of similar products out there and they are pretty much all the same thing. Just connect your VCR audio and video (get one with S-video input if your VCR can output it) and push a couple of buttons and you'll end up with an MPEG file.

You might need some RCA patch cables as well if the convertor has female plugs like the one I linked. Dunno why they don't just put male connectors on so you can plug it right into the VCR.

Is there a program that the "burning CD" mentioned in the Best Buy page installs to manage the uploads?
