Cortana not live

I've searched but haven't found an answer to this. When I open Cortana it does not automatically go into the mode where I can ask something. I would have to touch the mic for it to work.

That's normal. It gives the option to either speak or type. I rarely talk to Cortana. 99% of the time I type what I want Cortana to search.

Holding down the search button to activate Cortana puts you directly in listen mode.
