When looking around in Settings I see something called zStorage.

What the heck is it? When I touch it, it pops back to the Start page with the Icons.

Why isn't that page called the desktop?

I'm not much of a photographer and don't know what all the icons in the camera app are for.

The other day I went to snap a pic of one of my owners cats and it jumped just as I took the pic and came out blurry, of course.

How can I set the default for still pics to be high enough to stop motion?

I thought I had everything set to Auto and was surprised it didn't stop that motion and give me a clear picture.

1. that means youre on the unfinished Windows 10 Mobile preview. That's been mentioned as a random doohickey we can ignore.

2. Because its a start menu, not a desktop per se. There aren't even windows on the phone, in the traditional computing paradigm.

3. Lumia Camera has a tutorial you may like.

4. You can't set a new default, but you can use manual controls - see the tutorial. Although its hard in that situation, since you can't just make the cat jump any number of times when you want it to for that photo.

Start page looks like the Desktop to me.
If I click on an Icon it runs the program / app just like on my desktop computer.
I know it may not " technically " be a desktop but if it looks and acts like one, what's the difference?

A little while ago I set the shutter speed to 1/ 400 and the ISO to 800 but those settings go away once it is closed.

PIA to have to reset them every time.

Really poor software that won't let us change the defaults. Grrrrr.

Makes taking sports picture out of the question because by the time you reset everything the pic is gone.

As well as many everyday family pictures ... no time to be fiddling around changing settings.

Reckon that gives me something to FEEDBACK about. :(

Thanks for the quick response. Appreciate it. :)

there are other camera apps in the store that let you save settings, e.g. ProShot. However, for taking sports pictures you need a "real" camera in my opinion.
For me and my wife the camera works perfectly fine for taking family pictures. My wife would be the first to complain since she would normally prefer the SLR.

I think it's called start page, because it's primarily a mobile OS and it wouldn't sit on your desk like a conventional screen. That will eventually merge with the appearance of more and more phablets etc. Once continuum comes out with new hardware you call it start page on the phone and once you connect it to a monitor you got the desktop.
