When I start an app which uses the compass it tells me to calibrate the compass, but it never says it's finished or that the compass is getting more accurate. Any idea?

And in the top-right corner the plastic back sort of flexes when I push on it. Is this normal?

There has been a discussion about the inaccuracy of the compass in mobile phones around the forums in the past. Basically:
1. You would need to calibrate the compass almost every time you transfer to a new location when the phone is new.
2. Compass calibration should decrease after around a week or two of owning the phone.
3. Compass heading will almost always be off by a few (+/- 10 degrees) from magnetic north.

The L640 has a removable battery, which means it has a customer-removable back cover. Hence the back cover should have some degree of flexibility so that it can be easily removed without breaking it. Flexing is expected around the joints an in un-reinforced areas.
