Data limits finally removed?

The limit set by ATT used to be 20 or 25mb for an app download. Then over a year ago, that limit was updated to 50mb. Apple was just able to increase it to 100mb recently, but Microsoft has not been able to do so. It may just be the pull that Apple has with ATT that they got priority treatment, or that it requires a software update, in which case wp could get it in 8.1! But at the moment the app limit is 50mb for windows phones on ATT.

Yea but, Verizon, I was still capped at 20mb for a app download, and yes, I have unlimited data (that I wont give up), I do hope they allow 50mb on Verizon or even allow you to download 100mb+ but, with a warning "This app is over 50mb, this could cost blah, blah blah".

Biggest thing I hate about this is, when am away, I get board, I want to buy and download a new game to play but, it's 76mb and I cant download it with no wi-fi, I SHOULD be able to have the option in some way to download the app. If apple upgraded it to 100mb, I want that on Windows Phone as well but, I would be fine with a warning of some type.

Maybe we should ask someone who has the beta of WP 8.1 to see if they can try to download a 70-100mb app over the cell network.

I really don't see what is stopping MS from including an option in the device settings to go all-you-can-eat on the cellular connection. There can even be a confirmation pop-up with a tick box to double confirm the action.

Because if MS does so, none of the Windows phones can pass most carriers' certification process. Without carrier certification, there will be no carrier branded (and subsidized) phones.

At one time, even Apple has to disable Facetime on cellular data connection for iPhones released on AT&T network.

Maximum app size on Google Play Market is 50MB. So, there is no sense to add additional limit. Larger apps like games to use separate data download which is limit to 2 files max and 2GB size max for each file.

Interesting reference as you have jogged my memory. I never considered data connections to be a possible point of certification/carrier stamp.

The carrier has nothing to do with the Limit, I'm on AT&T and I was able to download apps over 100mb before Google play started changing to the 50mb max... WP8 should follow Google Play and do the same. Just cap the max of the app to 50mb and then once the app is installed download the rest of the files withing the app.
