Complete Newbie here so please be patient with my obvious ignorance.
I purchased an ATT unlocked version from an Amazon retailer so I do not have a unlock code. Do I have to have this code to rebrand my phone. It accepted my Tmo sim card and I can make calls and send text.

Second: When I go to the Mrcrab page and enter the product code to get the ROM 1073 files there are 14 files there. Do I download all 14?

De-branding has nothing to do with unlocking. The latter is only for allowing non-AT&T SIM cards to be used on your phone. Your phone is unlocked so you are good there.

You want to de-brand only if the AT&T ROM doesn't meet your needs. For example, if you need Windows 10 on your phone without Insider Program, you should de-brand and switch to another ROM. If you need more LTE band coverages (like Band 12), you need to de-brand and switch to another ROM.
Look at this simple guide here to de-brand and flash new ROM. Follow everything step-by-step and nothing will go wrong.

First of all, DO NOT INSERT THE AT&T SIM IN YOUR PHONE AT ANY COST UNTIL UNLOCKED. In fact, do not power on, if that is a possible option.

Since you have already supplied your IMEI number for the unlock request, I doubt you can submit a new one with the right email address. The only option is to call up AT&T, tell them you gave wrong email and ask them to update it.

I have tried several times now to de-brand my phone using the above link. I tried to use the WRDT to reinstall the software to get the phone back to the factory state but it would fail to reload the software. I finally used the msft find my phone and erased the phone that way. I still the error like this:

Please make sure the phone is connected to the computer using a USB cable Press any key to continue . . .
De-branding

(IUTool Version: 11:52:10/Feb 7 2014)

ERROR: Failed to enable logging (0x80070005); continuing anyway.

[1] Transferring files complete: 3 files
[1] Installation failed (HRESULT = 0x80004005) [1] Failed (0x80004005)

ERROR: 0x80004005

Command failed. (HRESULT = 0x80004005) De-branding complete. Would you like to install the T-Mobile ROM (image)? [Y,N]?Y Finished

Suggestion or any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You didn't upgrade to W10m before doing that right? You need to be on 8.1.

Looks like you already pushed those 3 files to your phone. Next step would be to flash the T-Mobile ROM (or any other unbranded ROM) using the thor2 commands. You can follow the instructions here to proceed.

Hello Pankaj

I also getting failed to enable logging message but after that i successfully transferred 3 files and the

update.bat command line showing update started and then my phone rebooted and migration

started. After the completion of the migration a message appears on the phone that update done and

then i select done option on the phone but update.bat command line disappears.

The last message shown on command line is that update started.

Now i dont know if i debranded my phone successfully or not?

In the about section of my phone still shows ATT Lumia 640LTE.

Please see my comment below. The 3 files do not debrand your 640 but unlocks it for debranding. The FFU file is the ROM you need to flash to debrand successfully.

Okay, I have some questions... I wish the OP was edited continuously because the original XDA post was so confusing. So here's my experience and tips...

  • Make sure the phone is 8.1. I tried with 10 and it failed.
  • Make sure you have reset protection off. This seriously bricked the phone. I'm still awaiting Microsoft tech support to fix the problem. In the meantime, since the 640 is so cheap, I just used another one. What happened is once the phone reboots and you're at the setup, it'll ask you for the reset code. I went to go retrieve the reset code from the account page for the microsoft account and it's just not there to be retrieve. there's no way to enter your microsoft account info and no way around it. The Microsoft Store near me worked on my phone for an hour and said they couldn't figure out how to fix the problem and escalated the problem.

So once I got the new AT&T phone, I went about the unlocking process so I could use the T-Mobile SIM. Took a day to get the unlock code.

Then I tried to follow the XDA instructions.
Steps 1-8 are completely fine and were easy to do.
Step 9 was a mess. There was no start.bat file. There was no WPID folder.

I went to the Tutorial | Microsoft Lumia devices and Nokia Lumia devices flashing by DilanChd, Recognized Contributor and followed that.
I downloaded the firmware from Lumiafirmware.com

So I didn't actually "debrand" because I had no idea how to debrand. The tutorial by DilanChd appeared to work without a hitch. It appears to be a T-Mobile phone with all the T-Mobile tiles and software. And it recognizes the T-Mobile SIM. I didn't use any of the files that the XDA guy said to download except for the 3 cabs and the iutools.

Re: How do I find out which ROMs support which 2G/3G/LTE bands?

Hi did you test band 3 (1800) in India ? its not there in RM-1073 AT&T ROM
Sorry if I am posting a question that has already been answered elsewhere. I tried searching but could not get a reliable answer.

My unlocked AT&T GoPhone Lumia 640 (unlocked, not de-branded or re-flashed) supports:
3G - UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
4G-LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 17

This phone will be used in India eventually. India bands are:
GSM 900/1800
3G - UMTS 2100
4G-LTE Bands 3, 5, 40

So with the AT&T ROM which is installed presently, I am fully covered.

If I de-brand this phone and go for AR or 7R CV ROM, will I lose any of the above band support, thereby making the phone unusable for 2G/3G/4G (any)?

Also, which is a 'better' ROM among the Argentina variant and Mexico variant and why? If both are exactly the same in terms of firmware and band-support, which one would you go for?

Thanks!
