Destiny without Gold, worth it?

I'm a casual gamer. I've heard Destiny is a must play but I'm afraid that it will not be worth it because I don't have an Xbox Live Gold subscription and I don't want to waste money on something I won't be able to play.

Since the entire game is an Online-Only Game, I'm afraid I won't be able to play the game although I have heard that the single player campaign is still available.

Please tell me what is included in Destiny without a Gold subscription and whether I should buy it.

So, you do lose out on a serious chunk of content if you play without Gold.

You can't play in any of the online multiplayer maps, of which there are several. If memory serves, you also miss out on any Fireteam missions. There's still the main campaign that you can play through. (original campaign, and then both DLC)

I didn't have Gold when I originally played Destiny, and it was still fun. However I got tired of it faster, especially once I'd completed the campaign. Whether it's worth it really just depends on how you like to play games. It never bothered me, because I like playing by myself, but that obviously isn't the case for everyone.

As Jen said, you're going to miss out on some of the big raids and running missions with fireteams, but you can play through the campaigns.

I got it when it first came out. I played a Warlock to level 8 or 9 and just lost interest in the game entirely, even with the multiplayer stuff. My own experience with the game was somewhat limited so I can't really comment on updates to the game or the DLC. It just wasn't as fun as I expected it to be for a Bungie title. Maybe it's just my play style and what was expected of me didn't mesh. YMMV. I just have a limited amount of time to play games and so many that I want to play, I'm not going to waste time on something that I just don't find to be that fun or enjoyable. I still have it so maybe one of these days I'll get back into it.
