Developer Preview 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

After installing WP 8.1 DP, I started encountering two issues that Update 1 hasn't addressed: 1- my mic doesn't work when on speakerphone or recording video (using Bluetooth for calls and Nokia Camera instead of the native Camera app are acceptable workarounds), and 2- my device appears to turn itself off at random times (often while charging, sometimes as often as daily/nightly) but it's actually entirely frozen and requires a soft reset to restart it. This happens with Wi-Fi on or off, when I'm charging and when I'm not, etc., and one peculiarity is that if it's charging when it hangs/locks, charging stops until I've done the soft reset.

Because these started happening with 8.1 DP and I don't yet have Cyan, my hope is that it's a firmware issue that will go away when I get the Cyan update. Can anyone confirm/refute that? Thanks!

So I dont know if this is documented anywhere but there is a bug since WP8.1 with my Lumia 1520.

A2DP Streaming via bluetooth to my Volkswagen's RNS510 satnav/radio counts in 2 second increments. For example, if the song is 4 minutes long, it will count 2 secs, 4 secs, all the way to 4 minutes - at which point only 2 minutes of the song has elapsed, so it will then begin to count backwards -0:02 etc.

I did some more testing last night - I was on Developer Preview running 8.1 GDR1 without Cyan. I flashed back to 8.0 and the issue was gone; I then updated to 8.1 with Cyan - the issue was back again. I hope Microsoft can fix this one as its quite annoying.

So installed WP 8.1 Update 1 and now my Display settings does not load up. It saw loading then goes back to the System settings view. Tried a soft reset but still doing it. Anyone else having this?

Issue with "Turn Wifi Back On" option on my Lumia 920. With the WiFi off, after I click the dropdown menu under the "Turn WiFi Back On" option, I'm not able to select any of the drop down menu options and the WiFi app crashes after a few seconds. Trying to get back into the WiFi app isn't successful after this. Only solution seems to be a phone restart to get WiFi functioning again.

Since the 8.1 Update 1, InPrivate searching seems to be broken. When I search (via terms in the address bar) within an InPrivate tab, it'll launch the bing results (same as global search via tapping your magnifying glass). Clicking on a result will open a normal (not InPrivate) browsing tab.

A whole series of apps (Newser, Weave, Engadget, etc.) have all lost the ability to share content via Twitter. The "Share to" option in the apps brings up a Windows Phone 8.1 "Social" list, that has things like Facebook and Email, etc., but no longer lists any Twitter option.

Twitter integration is still listed under 'Settings', 'Email+Accounts', Rowi AND official Twitter app are both installed and authorized.

Still no way to share to Twitter... :crying:

I have installed the preview on my 630 and happened a couple of times that the phone failed to connect to my wifi coming back home after being out for a few hours. I had to restart the phone to be able to connect again. This bug happened twice to me, but I've just saw a topic on the verge forum with the same issue.

Weird thing is happening in my both torrent apps:
Torrex pro and wpTorrent.

in wpTorrent : files -> swipe to "file hub" -> click "New Folder" >>It goes blank and back again at same screen
in Torrex Pro : click "Add Torrent" -> click "Phone" -> boom back to start Torrex screen.
or goto settings ->"Select a folder" . screen goes black and back to same setting page.

does any one has faced this? How to solve it?

Photo Apps - No more nice random photo show up as its background now, only pure black background
Notice this as well for others core apps which on WP8.0 having random related photos used as its background images which render a very nice UI experience but when updated to Wp8.1 all those background gone and only a pure black background left... is it me only or can someone confirm this as I've read through the forum and seem no one mentioning about this... I miss those lovely random background images as it make the Lumia devices look premium...

Environment:
- Hardware is a Nokia Lumia Icon (929)
- OS is version 8.10.14147.180 (WinPhone 8.1 Dev Preview)
- Firmware version is 1028.3566.1417.0047

Steps and conditions to reproduce:
- Phone has been powered on and operating normally under daily use for several days with wifi active and functioning normally across many routers, including known, recognized, trusted routers with saved credentials
- User enters airplane mode, which automatically disables wifi
- Phone stays in airplane mode for several hours (5 to 7 hours)
- User exits airplane mode, which automatically enables wifi

Results:
- On exiting airplane mode, no wireless routers can be found, much less connected to, by the Windows Phone device, including known and recognized routers with credentials saved on the Windows Phone device
- Wireless router presence, functionality and connectivity can be verified by other wifi connected devices including laptops, desktop PCs, iOS devices, Android devices, etc

Expected Results:
- Windows Phone device discovers and automatically connects to known, recognized routers upon exiting airplane mode

Attempted fix:
- Restarted router: did not work
- Restarted phone: worked for a few days, did not provide a permanent solution, issue resurfaces several times a week

Note:
- Asking the user to handle dysfunctional system behavior with work-arounds is not a 'fix.'

How is this possible?

It's a temporary issue. I had something similar.

I think you might have some heavy apps running in background.

Nothing running in the background, I always close apps Im not using

After installing 8.1, I tried the new Action Center & go through some settings, but realized the phone hadn't prompted to migrate data, so I restarted, it went through 7 steps to migrate data. But now some of the supposed built-in apps are missing: the Games hub (don't know bout this since all games now listed outside anyway), Music app (including Podcast, tried installing from the Store, it downloaded, but failed to install after saying "restoring data" with error 80073cf3), built-in email clients (Yahoo!, Gmail, Outlook, all crashed after launched, still receiving new emails notif in the center, though! LOL), Battery saver, Calendar, and of course Cortana (region & language are US before & after update, can go to settings/Cortana, enable it, but back out and it never turns on).
Somehow I feel that I was still halfway through the 8.1 update because the missing apps are the ones getting revamped with 8.1, but the phone said everything is done, then started migrating data. Tried going to phone update to check for new ones, no avail. On Lumia 520, build 8.10.12359.845 don't want to hard reset the thing just because of this. Anyone has the same problems?
I also noticed I still received reminders for appointments on calendar, twice for each appointment actually, which makes me come to think that there are 2 calendar apps on my phone right now, the old one and the 8.1 one. The same could be said for other missing apps. How the hell it ended up like this anyway?
