My "team" will like this since they prefer the chats and haven't moved to the channels I built them.

I don't think it's possible for them to make Teams any worse than it is now, so bring on the changes!

We may even be able to put contacts in groups again, like we could before the mess which is "new teams". I won't hold my breath though, Microsoft aren't in the business of creating good UI\UX for customers these days.
