I assume no but does RT support extended desktop mode? I am guessing it is just cloning but thought I would ask.

REALLY? When extending, can it do something like 1440 x 900 on the external monitor without much slowdown? I have a 23" touchscreen that might like to be paired up once in awhile....

I'm not sure about supported resolutions, my Surface isn't due to arrive until next week, but I remember reading a review (may have been The Verge) saying that extended desktop is supported and works exactly like on Windows 8.

One more thing. Does the displayport carry audio?
Yes. My son and I have been using the Surface to play Hydro Thunder Hurricane on the big screen TV with the audio cranked. Works great!

Just realized my mistake. The answer to your question is still yes. Display port to HDMI converter carries audio if needed. Works on my 17" LT.

really the only thing a Surface RT doesn't do is run legacy apps, Windows 8 under the hood runs pretty much the same.
