The whole reason I actually bought a Surface Pro 128GB when I did was because I had a long international trip coming up in mid April. So I went out at the beginning of March and got me a Surface. Sure enough, like all classic stories go, I was forced into downloading one of Microsoft's Surface software patches. And of course the patch bricked my Surface. Why wouldnt it?

This was the last week of March. So on March 29, I sent it via Fedex (the prepaid shipping label was for Ground...WTF???). It was my understanding that Microsoft would ship out a replacement Surface right away, before your broken one even got to them, because I had read this in other places around the forums. Wow was I wrong! Apparently they do not do that anymore (too many low lifes stole the second surface??). My Surface arrived promptly at their repair center in Texas on April 2, about 4 business days after I mailed it. I thought that was good. My trip was not until April 17, a full two weeks later. I thought surely they would get my replacement surface out ASAP. Again, I couldnt be any more wrong. I have been on and off with customer service and elevated specialists over the last 10 days. No one seems to know what is going on with my repair. I keep getting told I will get a call from someone in 2-3 days. Those time periods lapse with no response. I get told my replacement will ship within 3-5. Nothing. That was like 7 days ago. Overall I have been very disappointed with Microsoft and I will not be purchasing another device from them. 18 days without a computer is unacceptable in my book!! Especially now that I will be leaving for my long international trip until June 8 without the computer that I spent $1250 on, just one month ago....

I put a bit of financial stress on my life to purchase what I thought was a high quality product, to have it break only a few weeks after buying it, after babying it the whole time, because of some stupid software update from Microsoft, only to be treated like crap by their customer service. It is all a big racket. I will be waiting for Nokia to come out with a Tablet PC and I will be getting that. At least their customer service actually serves the customer.

Post your comments here about Microsofts customer service as far as the Surface, but also any comments that may persuade anyone from ever purchasing anything from Microsoft, including the Surface, any windows products, and even the Xbox. Thanks!

I sent mine in and they sent me a replacement a few days later. I was without it for a week, maybe a week and a couple days. I'm sorry your experience hasn't been the best.

I've had excellent service from Microsoft so far. Had an Xbox replaced a few years ago no problem and recently a type cover, all within a reasonable time frame (7-10 days). Sorry you had problems but as you mention its possible MS is more cautious now because people have scammed them in the past and these things do happen from time to time so just bad luck you had this experience.

When dealing with Customer Service, never ever ever deal with front-line people. Those who aren't idiots by nature are ill-informed. They read from scripts and have no idea how the entire process actually transpires. Always demand to speak to a supervisor immediately. None of this "being kicked upstairs to a 'Specialist'". Be aggressive. You can get things done.
