Edit number before calling

Is there a way to edit the number being dialled in Windows Phone 8???

Sometimes I need to add a prefix to a number but to do this in WP8 I need to erase the whole number and type it from the beggining. There is no arrow key to navigate to the beggining of the number, and clicking and holding doesn't work the same way as the click and hold within a text message.

Even if I save the number to a contact, it is impossible to edit the beggining of the number, I need to write it down on paper, or copy-paste to a text file, then copy-paste to the contact number. That is so stupid.:angry:

The quicker way is to use rap dialer. Copy the number. Then in rapdialer click on the space within after phone icon. Select edit. Now paste the number. You can edit anywhere now and dial this number.

if you have the number saved to a contact you can edit the number in the contact card by bringing up the cursor as you normally do in a message, email, Office etc. In the dialler you can't use the cursor. Why can't you just save the contacts with the prefix?

What I do is I copy the number first, on the dialer, I enter the prefix that I use and then paste the copied number.

The dialer automatically deletes + sign in front of my copied number as well.

I cannot believe Microsoft is so stupid! This drives me crazy! I constantly travel to other countries and I must change several contacts temporary with a country code and some zeros to the beginning of the number. So as the original poster does I am stuck using a pin and paper. Also when i enter a number for the first time if i miss a digit i must delete all of them because i cannot get a blinking cursor. Nokia get off you a*s and fix this! I am starting believe Symbian was way ahead of its time.

It can be frustrating.

A smart dialer would be useful also, as well as the ability to manipulate the phone number, prior to dialing.

Yep, I miss a lot of features from my N8 (Symbian) too. It was very polished in the end.

Hope MS do something to the next coming update.

Just store contacts in the phone with their own country code, so for in the UK, my contacts are +44xxxxxxx. Or create multiple numbers for the same contact with different prefixes.

I don't get why people would want to constantly edit prefix numbers in the dialer.

I receive a call from an unknown dialer (possible client for my business), and you need to call it back.... I can't save a number to my contacts if I don't know who is calling, and sometimes, I don't want to save the number if that person isn't important to my business.

How is this related to not being able to edit numbers in the dialer? You're describing something that's common to all phones/businesses, the phone can't magically know whether a number is worth calling back or not.

Ok, maybe I didn't make myself clear..... I'll try again. I see you are trying to help us.

Here in Brazil (and probably in other parts of the world). When you need to call someone, you have to put the operators code number (at&t, verizon, etc) before the phone number.

So all the time I have missed calls from unknown people. On my history calls (missed calls), there are some unknown numbers that I need to call back. They don't have the operator number already typed in, they only have the area code. To call these numbers, I need to add the operator code number.

Out of interest, if you have an incoming phone number, how do you know what prefix to insert in order to successfully place a return call?

You always put the same operators code number. It's the one you bought your SIM card from.

Mine is from TIM, and the code is 41.

The missed call is like this on the phone: 0 (11) nine digit phone number
Where the number inside ( ) is the area code.
So I need to put the number 41 between 0 and (11) to complete the call.

What I find in my phone ( L925 ) a call from an unknown number outside my region always comes with a prefix number of that region , so calling back to that number is not a problem. I stay in India , any call coming to me outside my state always comes with a prefix +91 and it is true for all calls from outside my country as well. The problem is if I saved a number without a prefix and that person is roaming at the time of calling , but this can be edited as described in an earlier post by mpt15.

I think the only solution that you have is to create new contacts for numbers you don't know and use the phone number for the first name to ensure that it's at the top of your contact list. If you want to convert the number to a contact, that should be simple (just edit the name). If you want to delete it, then just delete it.

Not a perfect solution, but at least it gives you the functionality of temporarily storing numbers to chase up.
