Engadget and others to preview Apollo on 6/20

I LOVE windows 8.
It makes my fujitsu windows 7 convertible a LOT better.
It takes the good parts of WP7(Live tiles, fast boot speed, etc), and meshes it together with the strengths of traditional windows (app support, desktop, etc).

If you don't like metro, its actually quite easy to avoid it.

When I'm on mouse and keyboard, I barely go into metro. For me, its just a new start menu.

Man, I wish more people would see it like you do. I've read so many comments about how people who will stay on Win7, how Win8 is a transitional OS and the new Vista, that Metro is useless etc. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of these people haven't even installed any of the previews and played with them ( and are probably still on XP. ).

People say this nonsense everytime a new version of Windows comes out. Resistance to change is a natural human behavior. None of this will prove Windows 8 to be a failure. Only time can do that.

I'm going to wait for the retail version to see if they get some more bugs worked out. I LOVE the metro UI but unfortunately, there are still some bugs with a Wacom-based tablet and that really is a deal breaker for me. As the_tyrant mentioned, if you're on mouse & keyboard just click on the upper left and go to traditional desktop. What's the big deal?

Or just press Win+D, even easier.

I agree, there still are a few bugs I'd like to see addressed (like no copy & paste between desktop and metro, really?) and some of the metro apps need more features. Being a musician, I think they REALLY need to make the music and video app better, especially when it comes to supporting more codecs. No FLAC support is a joke.

Windows key + D would be easier if I wasn't on tablet mode. I'm sure there are, or about to be, some traditional start tiles added to the Metro page for users like me. I can't see the start function being completely tossed or having to resort to workarounds with so many non-touch or Wacom-based units still out there. My tablet does run faster on W8 than W7, but not as fast as XP. I'll keep XP in partition until W8 gets honed to suit MY particular needs. If it doesn't or 3rd party apps don't see the light of day then I'll just stick with W7 and/or XP.

I have a bad feeling about the reaction with windows 8.

the divide between windows 8 ad windows RT will probably confuse people. It is unrealistic to expect everyone to understand the difference between x86 and ARM.

Also, RT seems like such a bad name, might as well call it windows lite or something

I don't see anything wrong with W8 and RT. No other OS has a "universal" name for their systems. Apple has "OSX 10.x" for their desktop version and "iOS" for their mobile version. Google has "Chrome" and "Android", respectively. Actually, it indicates a state of symbiosis between all the platforms which should serve as a reminder of the seamless integration "purportedly" being touted by MS.
