Upon downloading WP 8.1 GDR1, it goes through the preparing for installation phase, and then shows the two updates (one being a WP 8.1 update, other one being GDR1), and when I ask it to install them, the phone reboots and even the spinning gears icon is displayed. But the phone restarts after 2-3 minutes telling me the update couldn't be completed because of error 80188308. Any ideas? I am using Lumia 620, WP 8.1 DP + Lumia Black. Have tried downloading 2 times already, same error.

Hey you're not the first one. There's a lot of forums about solving this problem. Microsoft said that they need time and its maybe a storage problem.

Actually, they haven't addressed this issue yet. That was for 8018830f, which is a completely different problem than 80188308

Try a soft reset by holding down the power and volume down keys and try to install again. Try making some more space in the phone. Share if it works

I tried many times , uninstalling all the app , soft reset and finally hard reset ( reset to factory )
sad to say , error (0x 80188308)

I had tweet and join wp forum to get some answer . but, no reply from Microsoft

Same issue here. Tried a few times now and the gear animation runs and then within a minutes it reboots back. On Lumia 920 1.5 Gb of Ram free. Cannot find error code on MS site.

I get the same error code - 80188308. I'm running a Lumia 920 (Windows Developer 8.1) with over 10 gb free.

Microsoft is unable to fix this issue or what? I want WP 8.1 Update. Why can't they fix the BitLocker issue and this issue and roll-out an update?

I don't actually understand what is the percentage of users who are using the encryption system, why not have them downgrade than to people who are not using it

Many days after this started, my 920 still gets the 80188308 error on any attempt to update.
I know MS say they are working on it, but they seem to have cleared the others but no news for the 80188308 crew. Sure its a DP, but you can't test a new version if you can't install it.

Backed up my phone, reset it, downloaded the update and finally the update installed correctly!
