Existing Apps from 8.1 -- Work with 10?

I asked this question at the Microsoft Store (Tyson's Corner, VA) when I pre-ordered my 950XL, but none of the sales folks knew the answer. Having not used the preview on my rapidly-aging 920, I just don't know...

Will existing apps from 8.1 work under 10? If there's an app I'm using right now, will I be able to download it and use it on the new phone?

They do, but only apps written for UWP will work with continuum.

yes, windows phone 8/8.1 apps will work under windows 10. hell, my windows phone 7 apps that were NOT compatible under windows phone 8 download and work fine under windows 10.

It might be hit or miss with some OLDER apps... Something to keep in mind, as I have noticed in the preview program, so apps dont run right or have errors that pop up (mostly very old games)
