External Mic in Lumia 950 Not Working

I just bought this mic from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUvbUpU3408080

It doesn't seem to be working, though it lists "Windows smartphones" as compatible. When I plug it in, the phone seems to register it as headphones being plugged in, but it is not taking over audio recording. The phone's mics are still recording. I know that I used the headphone jack to plug in an external mic with the 920 and 1020. Did the hardware for the headphone jack change on the 950? Is Windows 10 not allowing the phone mics to be disabled when an external mic is plugged?

The 950 seems to only accept 3pole plugs. My 920 was 4 pole. Look at the end of plugs divisions. 2 mono. 3 stereo 4 is stereo with phone call mic.

My monster purity pro headphones which were marketed as windows phone headphones do not work with the plug on my 950. Luckily they have Bluetooth.

Frack why would you make a modern phone that could not take a mic input on the jack?

I have to say false. My zagg earbuds and AfterShokz , both wired, 4pole headphones with inline mics, work fine. Even with the phone in my pocket. If it did not support an inline mic, I am pretty sure someone would have noticed day 1.

I only have one 4 pole plug(monster purity pro) . Glad to hear yours are working.

There are 2 standards for the 4pole plug.... 1 was standard, before the iPhone, and well, apple went the other way. Some devices were able to autodetect between the 2, others needed an adapter (many early Android devices needed said adapter).

So does the 950 need an adaptor? Something has changed. This mic works on my older Lumia 1020, but not on the Lumia 925.

That I don't know, since my headphones work and work fine on my 950 and various devices I had at work (iphones, iPads). Beyond that, not sure what else to say.

Hmmm, wonder if I have a clunker 950 that needs replaced.

I warranty exchanged and the new one has the same issue.

Well sad to hear that. Clearly they changed the audio jack with the newest models. Hope I can find a mic that'll work for my 830.
