You can't just directly convert to USD with electronic goods. Some countries pay more for the same thing as us. Like video games in Australia.

That's a placeholder price and date. I've seen retailers do this before. They like to lock in business, particularly for highly anticipated products.

But the fact that they are accepting orders on that price, doesn't mean its gonna be the price?

They put the price way high because they have to honor it. The actual price could be a lot lower, but since they don't have pricing information they pop it up higher than what they expect it to be.

FYI..... The 920 is listed at a site here in Sweden called Prisjakt, (Price Hunt) at 15.600 sek. That's about $2300. So, yes I think that the final price will be much lower. :)

For lumia 920, Elop will be crazy to price it over $249 for 2 year contract. IMO, $199 will make everyone happy. That translates to roughly 600-649 simffre

I'm hoping to get the 920 on Verizon for $600 or less full retail. Despite the technology crammed into the phone, I can't imagine that it would be priced higher than the iPhone 5.

Hmmm. $249 on contract with AT&T would make me think twice. The HTC One X is $99. I prefer WP8, but I could live with ICS/JB for $150 less out the door. I doubt it will be anywhere near that high, though. Nokia knows it needs to sell tons of these phones, even if that means a razor-thin margin now.

I hear you mate...I am thinking exactly the same thing. But here is the problem. I personally feel enough people are talking about the 920 and even if half of them are salivating on it, the prices will be touching the sky..

That's my fear. They've got the peeps talking...now its the time to cash in...

lesser devices sold for a higher price? - Likely

more devices sold at a lower price? - Naaah.

While I understand the desire to save money and the fact that the initial expense seems more daunting, the Nokia would cost you less than $8/month over the course of a 20 month contract. I'd gladly pay that premium for a more enjoyable experience that I would be using every day.

If the price is too high, people won't buy and they'll be forced to lower it to get some sales. The market will take care of overpriced products.

I have my own personal limit, no matter how much I want the phone. I imagine that others do, too. If Nokia prices too high, they risk not selling enough to get their heads above the water. They need all the help they can get right now.

Uumm..I don't think so. Look at Apple for instance. The most bizarrely over priced product line till date. And they keep talking about quality..I don't know what quality...security? An 18 year old kid cracked it. Performance? Just look at at any customized gaming rig out there with high specs and an iMac will look like a toy in front of it. Style and design? Was cool when it was new... now it looks like they are stuck in a rut.
Software compatibility? I think there are more apps made for Windows then for Macs.

But in spite of all these, a Mac is looked at like a classy, polished piece of technology and has the fanbois salivating...

My point, it will sell, may be not as much as it would sell with lower prices but sell for sure.

Knowing my luck the 820 will retail for ?850 and the 920 for ?3'500... if they do that then they're royally f**ked and I will have to end up getting the 8X... and we know how overpriced that device is...
