Hi guys

After the latest Surface Pro 3 update my device is running very hot with the fans on fully, and I'm only web browsing with the "metro" IE app.

Browsing with modern IE is the only thing I have used my Surface for since the latest update and its acting like its running a demanding game :/

Wondering if anyone else has this issue, or has a solution.

Thanks

I've had this issue over a couple different Surface Pro 3s by now, and there are countless people complaining about the exact same thing all over the web.

Of course the MS shills hired to hang out on message boards have tried to convince me that my unit was defective, but two units later I think someone's trying to save face.

I've tried the downloadable FW method where I do all the FW updates, then Windows updates, and been knee deep in my registry pouring hours into startup management, and this issue persists. I've considered downgrading back to the Surface Pro 2 over this many times (NEVER had this prob with the SP2).

It's the strangest phenomenon ever too, because I also work with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and Premiere... and I barely hear anything out of the fans in those, but even after the replacement, the "immersive mode" IE gets my fans got after a 20 minute browsing session. The fans are actually full throttle right now, and I've only been screwin' around on Windows Central.

My solution? ... well... it'll be here May 5th and it's the Surface 3... can't be bothered by a fan if there isn't one, and if my Dell Venue 8 Pro can handle the Adobe suite, the Surface 3 should handle it even better.

It could very well be some odd defect, but who knows.

Have you poked into task manager? All that processing power has to be going somewhere.

I believe that at least for some people, the problem is software related. I've been using the SP3 since it came out, without issue until I put Win 10 Preview on it. Since then, occasionally I run into the same issue. I have noticed that when this happens, the Application Frame Host is consuming almost 20% of the CPU. Once I close that, it cools down quickly. I'm not sure if this is always the problem, if its a problem with some installations of Win 10, or just a coincidence that it happened to me after I installed Win 10.

Its always been flash sites for me, opening up amazon or ebay will get the fans rolling after about 10 minutes browsing. No surprise this site gets the SP3 cooking with all the flash ads flying around.... Sold it and using a DV8 Pro while I wait for the S3.

Use tracking protection to block ads!
Also, the fan may spin up if you have SP plugged in because it tends to do background maintenance while plugged in

Does it do the same thing with FireFox? I don't use IE or Chrome and I don't have any issues with FireFox.
