Fight of the Year --- L930 or L1020 ? Help one newbie decide.

I just sold my 1020 and got 930. And I just LOVE IT.
Yes, camera is worse. But hey, 1020 has the best camera ever, and 930 is still very good, just not amazingly good.
But 930 is much faster, much better to hold, extra 0.5" of screen space are very significant. And it's futureproof.
So yes, 930 is a better choice. My colleague also got 930 instead of her trusty 800 - you can't imagine, how happy she is!

sorry, but no. It still has no optical zoom and a lot of noise due to the small sensor. And yes, they call it "lossless zoom" but in the end, it's just normal digital zoom. Not that the images are bad, they are really good for a phone. But it's still a phone, and you can't expect it to compete with real cameras. And since he's a photographer and normally uses a DSLR, he will know that the megapixels are of no use when the sensor is still pretty small.

To OP: I don't think the differences in the phones in terms of photos are that big. They both have a lot of noise compared to a real camera and that's about it. With perfect light, the pictures are really good, with both phones. If I were you, I'd visit the photo threads in the 1020 forum and for the 930 the Icon and 1520 forums, they both have the same cameras.

the 1020 has the same sensor size as the Panasonic t7 which is a highly regarded camera and used to cost over ?300 and now sits at about ?270 , the 1020 with its zoom also offers an aperture of 2.0 all the way through its zoom where as with some digital camera rx100 for example the aperture rises to things like 2.8 with just 2-3x zoom

the noise levels in the 1020 are great , I suggest visiting flickr and even the 1020 forum on this site to check out some of the work people are doing with this device , I have sold prints and people are asking me what camera I am using , it is that good and I don't know where you are getting these high noise claims from?

so people can say that the 1020 doesn't compete with high end point and shoot cameras but high end point and shoot prime type cameras come with no more then 3x zoom and they usually loose their great aperture when using the zoom , they also don't offer oversampling out of the box and need software to perform this , anyone who has used the nokia 1020 will tell you it can replace a high end point and shoot camera because it is one ;-)

the reason for such a high mega pixel count is to make the pixels as pure as they can be by using a very very clever oversampling method and combining 7/8 pixels from the 41mp images into one very clean pure pixel hence the name pureview , it also offers the user the chance to zoom into the 41mp image without using moving parts or facing things like loss of aperture here is the whitepaper and its worth a read ;-)

I bought a 1520 and am now selling it as after the 808 and then 1020 camera the 1520 camera is good but it doesn't offer the pureness and iq of the aforementioned phones and it looks like I will have to wait for the 1020 successor if there is one ;-)

if camera is important the 1020 is the one to grab the sensor and xenon flash offer a very very capable diverse camera (like carrying a high end point and shoot)
