FM radio stops playing - hardware defect or anyone else have this issue?

New owner of Nokia AT&T 1520 . Love the phone and WP OS, but the FM radio stops playing and cuts out. Example: I'll start the FM Radio app and play through the speakers. It will play fine for 1 minute and then stop. I can press Pause and then Play, and it will start playing again. But, it will stop playing again after another minute or so. Usually this will loop about 3-5 times and then it'll play fine for the remainder of the session. Sometimes, I can just leave it while it's stopped, wait about 3-5mins, very garbled stuttering sound will start for a few seconds, and then the FM Radio will start playing again on its own.

The radio signal seems good, have tried different set of headphones for the antenna, tried in different parts of the house, hard reset, and upgraded to WP 8.1 with hard reset. Same issue persists. I searched the forums and internet, but can't find anything related.

Is this a bug anyone else notices or is it just me? Maybe I have a hardware defect? I can still exchange my phone if it seems like hardware. Please let me know if any of you have this issue or can point me towards more info. Thanks!

Hey Welcome to WPCentral :)
lets try a soft reset first ,(I know you did a hard reset but at times soft reset solves most of the issues ), to do so long press the volume down + lock button at the same time until your phone vibrates and reboots itself (ignore the black screen to power off the phone ).

I have the same issue and did several soft resets. Hope 8.1 will solve the problem and it is not a hardware problem.

I am having some problems with the radio as well. When I plug in my headset, then select the radio, music only comes out of the speakerphone speakers on the back of the device, no sound from the earphones. It used to be the opposite up until about two weeks ago, when the last audio update came out. Anyone else notice this?

I have exactly the same issue with my 1520. WP 8.1 did not solve the issue. The radio stops randomly and eventually starts again after a few seconds.

The FM radio requires headphones. The headphones serve as the antenna. FM radio will not play otherwise.

Yes, headphones are being used when this happens. I've tried different headphones. I don't use the FM radio everyday, and from what I can figure, most people don't use the FM radio much either, which makes this issue a harder to pinpoint. But with the other reports in this thread, I'm leaning towards software/bug. Going to the AT&T store this week and test a couple devices there.

Any solutions for this. When I plug in headphones (Nokia WH-208s) and go to the Radio, sound only comes out of the phone speakers, nothing from the headset.

Hello !! Same here with my Lumia 1520. The radio stops randomly and eventually starts again after a few seconds.

Same problem. Digital gobblygook and then the radio cuts out. Also have cut out issues with the music app. I've tried different headphones but even have problems with my 1/8" jack in my car when on a call. I'm assuming its either a problem with the phones audio port or a software issue. Its ok, the malfunction only affects phone calls and music playing. Nothing critical.

Same problem with my Lumia 1520. Must be related to crappy hardware and/or software on this device. Looks like Microsoft does not give a **** to repair the problem.

Your Nokia WH-208s headphones are probably not compatible to Lumia 1520? Can you make calls with them on the phone?

^ Must have been some software issue, because those same Nokia WH-208s are working perfectly with the FM Radio app on the Threshold Release Ring 10586.107 build.

(I am very happy I switched over to this build ring as everything that I use is actually working perfectly - honestly have never had as good an experience on Windows Phone as this build!) I hope they don't proceed to bugger it up.
