I keep getting people PMing me asking for me to approve their signatures - mostly links to their own profiles on a website or their flickr accounts for their phone photography. We all know the guidelines - no images unless they're approved, no external links unless approved, no traffic leaching etc.

My question is, is there a hard and fast rule for these kind of no-harm external links like mentioned above. Do we straight out refuse or approve them or do we need a thread like this to get other admin/mod support to make a decision?

There is really no hard set rule what we allow. I do need you to run these by me for approval. To make it simple when deciding. Any link that is used to divert traffic off of WPC aka traffic leaching is not allowed. Things like spam, links to other websites that blog about tech or have forums or any kind are also not allowed.

I had a guy send me a PM asking to approve signature. His was just an image, not any links to other websites. Screenshot2.png

I approved it, but he hasn't added it yet. I actually like his a lot.

I've never had anyone ask me to approve a signature. I have asked a few people to make their signature smaller when it's excessively large.

I am glad this was brought up. It's something I need to pay more attention to.

Yup great thread think I will stick this thread we confuse it to confirm approvals.

Laura on the jpg's... images need to be no larger in height than what we have in our sigs. Make sure that person shrinks the image height. If a member is using an image it can't in their sig it can't have a link of any kind in the sig. No images that open a link and if they use an image no text links either. If someone wants to add a link to their personal information this is me blog page its a text link only.

Here is one that makes me crazy:

Sorry can't seam to copy and paste anymore. Tech has totally destroyed the usability of the IE11 keyboard. I will add content when I can get to my laptop

If all signatures are eliminated, I don't care. I think it's a trivial issue that doesn't have much effect on the forums. I rarely look at signatures anyway and never see them in any mobile apps (other than the Tapatalk signatures which usually list the device used).

The rules clearly state that we have the authority to make these decisions. No other agreement has been reached. We will continue to approve signatures at our discretion.
