Freezing screen

Hi all,

I have the i5 256GB SP3 and since several days now it is freezing from time to time when not plugged in and running of the battery. Since it doesn't restart and there isn't a BSOD, there is no crash report that I can find.

I contacted MS but they just had me reinstall the latest updates, which didn't help.

Is anybody else experiencing this or does anybody have a solution?

Rogue App, Poor connection to internet? I would return it for replacement or repair.

I've noticed that my 4wk old SP3 i7/256gb doesn't like not having an internet connection - unless I turn off WiFi.

System hangs but you can still move cursor? Can be many things.

1 - Make sure firmware is updated
2 - Back up personal data
3 - Hook up any keyboard. Hold shift while pressing restart. Delete user data and refresh tablet.
4 - Check for freezing.
5 - If there is still issues you could have a bad battery, cpu, or motherboard. Will need to have it serviced, and your machine will be ready as you have deleted your personal data.

EDIT: Sorry for recommending a wipe, but with the information given it is probably faster than diagnosing the problem and correcting it.

Thanks for your help. I did wipe everything and still had the problem. With freezing I meant that nothing was working, mouse, keyboard, touch screen, windows button, bit the screen was on and showed a static desktop.

I in fact today exchanged the SP3 after reading your recommendations and chatting with the MS support since I need it on Monday.

They haven't experienced this one yet.

Your battery was probably defective. Glad you were able to exchange, pita to fix

Could be your display driver software.
Can try downloading video driver from Microsoft.
