FYI, new icons are available at the microsoft store again

You wonder if someone found a few crates of these phones in the back of some warehouse. The price isn't bad at $249 off contract, but it's not real exciting to learn that it comes with Windows 8 but it's "8.1 ready".

I snagged one a couple weekends back. At $249, it struck me as good value and a timely upgrade for my nearly two-year-old 928...especially since I don't care for Android or iOS. Got upgraded to Denim without much fuss. Experienced the bad black levels documented thoroughly in another thread...contemplated sending it back. Learned how the Display settings work, then "calibrated" the screen properly...very happy with the results, made the Icon a keeper. Scored an Otterbox Defender case for it off eBay, brand new, for $20. If one is on Verizon and has unlimited data (which I do) and wants the best WP experience, this truly is the only option. But for $249, it's a pretty darned good one.

Greetings ChanceNC and everyone.

I wanted to do the same for my wife as she has the 928. We are off contract 15 year Verizon customer with 4 lines. Figured I would just put her SIM in. I noticed that Verizon just had this as a pre-paid now and was afraid it might get blocked as a pre-paid. Did you just swap SIMs?

hmmm... I have a spiderwebbed 928. I've been waiting for the 950, but am on vzw. Whilst this sounds appealing, I'm going to wait and see .

No, no back order. I was talking to retail store support over the phone to get some things strait as in the the return policy and how MS thought it would go considering they were using them for pre-paid. So the phone was ordered over the phone as opposed to online. I got expedited shipping for free and confirmation if there was any problem with Verizon I had 30 days to send it back.

You're lucky you were able to get yours, I just called their customer service and he confirmed they are out of stock which is why mine is on back order.

I googled Verizon icon and found $140 used ones at Verizon and I thought, OK I could go for that but when I clicked buy now it tried to make me choose a plan. Once I realized I had landed on their pre paid site I decided to call them to tell them I wanted one but did not need a plan as I already had one. I am not an expert on pre-paid but this is my understanding. People who have no credit can just pick up a phone and a pre paid card and pay monthly. Pay ahead. use up your minutes and data. Usually Verizon only has some cheap androids for their pre paid offerings, you cant use just any phone. It is a whole other division as I found out. Regular Verizon customers like my self that have a plan are not sold pre paid phones as they consider it a loop in witch they can get a new phone without a contract. I was surprised to see an ICON sold as pre paid only. The rep on the phone had no way of getting me one as it did not show up in his system. This pre paid thing was all new to me and worried me that if I bought a the phone from MS store I might have a hard time getting it activated but I did not.

Here is the link I stumbled on. Nokia Lumia Icon (Certified Pre-Owned) Prepaid | Verizon Wireless

Just an update - I noticed that the Icon has been removed from the Windows Store site. I placed my order last week and it has the status of "Back Ordered" so I must have got mine just in time before they ran out of stock - Hopefully mine comes...ha
