This Game's Room stuff is, so far, complete and utter BULL****... (PS. are there rules for swearing here?)

These games are typically the sort of product you find in $10-20 bundles packed with 20-50 games or something. Paying $3 for them is outrageous, and so is buffering the release list of Live Arcade titles with them. They should not be part of the same line of releases. Worse, there is no overarching application to play with and manage the Game's Room titles like there is in the 360. So they just get lumped randomly with all your other games.

I can understand the novelty of playing these titles off and on, but not for the current asking price. Especially when touch screen controls are far from the ideal precision required to reach a decent high score, and the games games can be found with far better deals elsewhere.

I don't know about everyone else, but this is far from what I anticipated would become a highlight of the WP7 platform in terms of gaming. I'm excited for titles like Angry Birds and Hydrothunder Go!, but someone is badly hindering the development of the phone as a companion to the xbox.

Yes please don't do it or at least don't go crazy with it. :straight:

Agree and dis agree games like "Need for Speed Underground" is totally worth it. There are some games that I wouldn't buy but that is why they all have a trial period or at least some levels you can play through.

$3 doesn't seem unfair to me. Of course I'd like to see $1 games but it just isn't happening yet. These games are also $3 on Xbox 360 and PC and on those platforms they don't have individual Achievements. Keep in mind that the Game Room games on WP7 are also far better ports than Pac-Man ($5) or Frogger ($3).

I don't think it's a big deal at all that there isn't a single Game Room application on WP7. If someone buys them all (6 announced so far), of course they'll take up a lot of room on the menu. But 1 - I doubt that many people will get them all, and 2 -the Mango update will improve the games menu somewhat.

We'll be posting our Centipede review this week, and I encourage you to check out my analysis of its pros and cons before completely writing these games off.

Big D5: Thanks for the heads up. I couldn't find any rules anywhere, but maybe I was looking in the wrong places. Also, I wasn't talking about the Live Arcade service for the phone in general, regarding the worthiness and pricing. Only the Games Room titles. Need for Speed Underground is not in the same league as Centipede.

Believe me, I'm a big fan of Microsoft forcing trials on companies. It makes purchasing decisions so much more fair and competitive.

This is the sort of viewpoint I'm coming across on.

I don't deny the emulation of the games is well done. I also like the menus and how stable and simple the Game Room titles are. The problem is that we're paying $3 for something that is not that level of value. While $3 is little in the big scheme of things, remember what I said about the availability of these titles. In most instances they are easy to acquire for free, and in other cases they come in sets at a greatly discounted price.

Take this for example: Midway Arcade Treasures - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are 23 games there. If every game was $3, that collection would be $70. But the collection only costs about $20. That means every game costs $.83. We're being way overcharged. That's especially when you consider that the WP7 versions have a mere shadow of the fancier features available on the 360, and are not part of a greater service.

The achievements are also largely unrelated to the game, requiring you to drive specific numbers of kilometers at certain speeds. Why? What does that have to do with the game exactly? Nothing. The problem is that there isn't enough actual game there to write 15-20 achievements for... So again, the question is why $3? And why part of the main Live releases?

Like I said, I don't deny they're good ports... but that doesn't change their actual value, or their awkward placement as a full Live release when we could have far greater titles in the line-up instead.

Pac-Man and Frogger shouldn't have been $5 either, and both should have been better games. While they're good examples of what not to do, they don't excuse the Game Room from failing in its potential.

I think $3 is too high for these types of games. I mean the price itself is cheap, but when you compare it to Full House Poker which is also $3 there's a big difference.
