Hey Gang,

I am a long time follower of wpcentral/wmexperts and just took the plunge into the ASUS T100 world. After weeks of comparing it to the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Venue 11 Pro, Surface 2 and the Lenovo and Toshiba alternatives, I ordered a T100 from Amazon and expect it to arrive tomorrow.

What I am hoping to do with this thread is get a little advice on how to set up my T100 from initial start up, as well as create a 'How To' guide for any other new owners. I am new to windows 8/8.1, but have done quite a bit of research and feel fairly comfortable after having hands on time during my comparison shopping. What I am really looking for is advice on which updates to apply, from both ASUS and Microsoft. I have read in a couple different forums that there are a few bugs that can be ironed out by updating the BIOS, as well as a few other firmware updates from ASUS, but I have also read that there are a number of Microsoft updates that have not been playing well with the ASUS drivers. So I am hoping to learn from someone else's experience, and hopefully shed a little light for any other new owners of what appears to be a great little 2 in 1.

Any additional advice/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Here is a tip I read. If you format your micro SD cards with ntfs format, the photo and music apps will use them for storage and you cam move your SkyDrive cache to it as well saving main storage space.

To help with battery life do this. Shut off the Asus reading app. Take control of the screen brightness yourself. I used my T100 all day at work on Friday, came home and surfed the web until 11:30 PM. I still had 18% battery life left when I plugged in the charger. Longest battery life so far, 18 HOURS!!!! And I was running a WIFI connection all day. I did put in stand by when I wasn't needing info at work, at most it was about 1.5 hours in standby. This little T100 absolutely ROCKS!

If you have any media files (music, videos, pictures) on an SD card, be sure to import them by opening explorer in desktop mode > right click the SD card > choose the add to library option.

Just got my 64 gig model. Started it up and logged im with my Windows live I'd. Then #1 thing I did was run the Asus updater and updated the bios to 220 and the other things it found. It takes several restarts to complete the bios update as well as other updates from the updater. Sometimes you have to manually turn it back in because the update shut it down instead of restarting it. Kind of odd. Don't freak out. I waited a bit and of it didn't restart then I powered it up. The Asus AC power watcher update required like three reboots. Then I ran windows update and updated everything including the drivers. Its running great for me. Love it. I have a 64 gig class 10 micro SD in it and just ordered a 128 gig pny turbo usn3 flash drive.

I've done this with my 32GB SD card with music, a single folder named MUSIC with all the albums inside, but Xbox Music only find some files, what I'm doing wrong?

Did you format the card as NTFS first? Xbox music is still a work in progress. If you did, it may have something to do with how your device is reading the music file formats of the songs you have it that folder. Also, it reads the card a little slower the first time you import a ton music too, so a dash of patience helps...

Just got mine a few days ago. How do you shut off the reading app? I must be blind cause I don't see it lol.
