Give me back my polycarbonate matte finish!!! - Here's How!

First of all, let me clarify that the color of the polycarbonate unit should be uniform throughout. Nokia is very clear about this on their website. If yours isn't you've probably have a somewhat defective body. Secondly please don't use anything less than 1300 grit. I would encourage to use even 2000 if you have access to that grade. The finer the better, and go through the sanding process patiently!

The part that I sand with 1200 grit has the same color but I noticed that there was a coating that makes the rest not prone to dirt. The part that I sand is prone to dirt thus discolors a bit until I wipe it extensively
 
sorry for necroposting, but...
it seems that the "shiny" thing is caused by oil from your hand

have you guys tried acetone?
it works quite well for me
