Glance: Moving around

I just find that hard to believe. How does it not use much power??

Believe it or not. It draws almost no power, just a bunch of pixel are ON and with superlow brightness. It did not draw much battery on my LCD lumia 920, it draws practically none on a OLED 950.

OLED's can turn on individual pixels, meaning that only the pixels that make up the clock and data are on without having to light up the entire display like traditional LCD's saving power. See: Android's Active Display

Even if it is an LCD, my 920's battery wasn't hugely affected by glance because of the very low brightness and not being on all the time.

I would expect it to move around.

The fact it doesn't concerns me somewhat. I hope its intentional because maybe the display is magical and will never burn in, but hey, a guy can dream right?

Maybe since its so high-res it switches every other pixel over time.

"Burn-in" really only happens due to the blue oled requiring more power to get same luminous output. So the more power it uses the shorter its lifespan is. So with the diamond matrix pentile it's arranged in such a way that allows for it to use less power and get the same results. There's more green subpixels which the eye is more sensitive and less blue ones that are made larger. Honestly, with todays oled displays the lifetime is pretty good. You will likely be getting a newer phone and it will still be working fine. I haven't heard of anyone getting burn-in with the diamond pentile layout. Then again who knows how different factors contribute. I know on my brothers 925 the glance screen moves around the screen. It's likely MS has faith in the lifetime of the device or just hasn't implemented this feature yet.

Well, worth noting I've seen burn-in personally on a Blackberry Q10 and have read secondhand accounts for the 1020 and Galaxy S 4, all with the diamond PenTile layout.

So its better I imagine, but I cant say its perfect.

Not sure if Q10 is diamond arrangement and it has improved since the s4 days, but even with s4 seems like a rarity as most people have not noticed it. So it could also be an out of factory screen issue that was not noticeable till later on or extremely careless use. You still should take care of your screen the best that you can. I for example will hide the navbar most of the time and flip it on quickly for when needed. So i'm constantly hiding and displaying my navbar but it's become second nature and it's so easy to do it doesn't bother me. I think it mostly affects people who keep their phone for a long period of time. But I hope at least Microsoft Complete warranty would cover something like that if it happened in the span of 2 years.

How often, what distance?

I must have been hallucinating :amaze:, but I was quite sure I had seen it showing the clock higher up, but still on the left. I have had it plugged in on my desk for a while today and it appears to have stayed on the bottom.

No, you're not hallucinating. I have it on full time at night on my 640 running 10586.29 and it stays on the bottom most of the time but I have seen it up at the top occasionally.

950xl on .29 and it moves. Took a while though as I was watching when I put it on the wireless charger. Maybe 5 minutes before changing. Then, it starts changing faster like every minute or 2.

That's very good to hear. I was about to book an appointment with a therapist.
