Not sure where to put this but since they both run Windows Phone 8.1 I'll try here
I'm currently on a Nokia Lumia 635 that I have traded in for an iPhone 5, the main reason for this being that I was unhappy with the iPhone 5's alltogether reception (if I had to describe it in two words it'd be major catastrophe). The 635 was my phone of choice for two reasons: a) the iPhone 5 was already too large for my personal taste, a 5" or even larger phone is completely out of question, and b) it's cheap enough so that I wouldn't have lost too much money in case I decided I either didn't get along or was missing a critical feature/application and went back to the iPhone 5.
Now, after a bit more than a month, I know I can do everything I used to with my iPhone 5 before and at least for the time being have no intention of going back to iOS. I might now have the possibility to get a Lumia 735 instead, which at least on paper seems very similar to the 635: same SOC, only slightly larger display (4.7" on the 735 vs 4.5" on the 635), SD card slot, swappable battery, Windows Phone 8.1. I couldn't care less for the higher resolution display (very happy with the 635), the front camera (this is a business phone after all and not once in my life have I ever had the desire to take a selfie) or the LED flash, thus as far as I was able to find out the only significant difference would be that the 735 has twice the RAM, 1GB vs. 512MB. The question is: will I notice the difference? I don't play games, I use it for business purposes (Exchange mailserver & calendar) as well as some private stuff (private mail, messaging, skyping with my wife when I'm on a business trip, webbrowsing, listening to music via MixRadio or Xbox Music) only. What I use it for most is actually the phone part of smartphone. What bothers me sometimes is that MixRadio can take up to 30s to load and that I'm seeing the "Resuming..." screen quite often when opening an app. Also, Internet Explorer reloads pages pretty much every time I open it. Will all that be different with the 735 or will it be more or less the same? How about call quality and reception, I was flabbergasted how much better reception on the 635 was compared to the iPhone - I can now make phone calls while on the train, which was a complete impossibility for the past five years since I got interrupted after two minutes max. Is the 735 comparable to the 635 in this respect as well as quality of voice service?
The upgrade won't cost me a dime since this is all paid for by the company but it'd take me quite some time that, quite frankly, I don't have much of right now. If I won't really notice a difference between the 735 and the 635 but will have to accept the fact that the 735 is once again a tad larger than the 635 (like I said, the iPhone 5 was too large for my personal taste already, and the 635 is ever so slightly larger than that already) I won't be bothered to upgrade and just stick with the 635. Regarding the size there is one more very important issue: i have two back covers for the 635, the matte black and the glossy orange one. I've noticed right away that the matte back cover is incredibly slippery and that for me it's MUCH easier to hold and use the phone with the orange cover since it won't slip out of my hand even at a rather extreme angle (> 45?). With the black cover it'll land on the floor as soon as I tilt my hand ever so slightly, I always had to use my pinky to keep it from dropping on the floor. With the orange one there's no need for that, it stays put and feels almost as if glued to my hand. How are the 735 back covers - matte (aka slipperey) or glossy?
