Is the Lumia 830 any good for gaming? It has sd support which is great for storing them, but I'm not sure about the processor. Would gamers be better off getting a phone with snapdragon 800? Or is the this phone good enough?

it'll definitely be "good enough"
the only major requirement is the amount of RAM a phone has. The 830 is on the better side of that gap.

Higher end devices will definitely perform better, but if it matters in gaming? ehhh sure things might be a bit smoother, multitasking better, but I wouldn't choose a higher end phone just for that reason. Gaming is fine on my 920, could be better, but hey.

One huge advantage of the 830 is heat/battery life while gaming. S400 appears to be very strong here.

Game developers on phones have to be mindful with how well their games run on a pretty wide set of devices, so rarely are they ever so intensive that a fairly modern phone can't run them.

Having said that, a phone really isn't the best choice if gaming is your main concern. There are plenty of handhelds that are built specifically for that purpose. This is basically the age old "Gaming Laptop" problem. Can you? Yes. Should you?... Not so much.

Ditto. Seemed like the second I turned on Modern Combat 4 on my Lumia 820, it was on fire.... Lumia 830 keeps cool under pressure.

I think what kind of gaming you want to do is an important factor. Are you looking to play Call of Duty or Need for speed type games or are you wanting Bejeweled/Tower Defense/Farmville type games? Obviously a stronger processor will enhance the fancier CoD/NfS types but they will still run on the 830 and the more casual type games will absolutely run just fine on the 830. I'm still on a 900 and have never had any problems with any of the games I've played on it.
