Google account stuck on syncing

Just today I started having an issue that, googling for help, is perfectly described in the following post:

Google is greyed out in Settings/Emails + Accounts. It has said "syncing" for 5 hours. No way to stop or delete it. Have tried many suggestions. Can anyone please help??? :crying:
