Google Mail is not syncing contacts

Lumia 720 with WP8.1/Cyan (no DP) user here.

It seems the Google mail is not syncing contacts? When I'm writing a new mail and trying to add a contact it doesn't recognize the name or auto complete it. Also, when trying to select contact using + sign only few contacts are shown.
Only after replying to a contact it recognize the mail address but not the name.

Sync contacts on Google Settings are set on every 15 minutes, on content to sync contacts are checked... It should work...

(I know that are apps that does the job, like MetroMail or EcoMerc's GMail. But that's not the point)

same issue here in lumia 720 post CYAN update.....
google contacs are not syncing correctly.. Does not show while composing mail.. Does not appear in People app.

Is this something to do with change in how we setup google account in 8.1..
any help

I think I figured out the exact issue.
The google contacts in which email id is not labelled as home or work or other are being synced without any details..

But this issue does not happen on outlook.com or prior to 8.1 WP..
Guess some bug with new Outh implementation in WP
