GPS tracklog app

Are there any apps to create a .gpx tracklog that can run in the background or under a lock screen? I need to make a tracklog file for tagging photos I take on a DSLR.

I would like to know if anything have changed in regards to running these apps in the background. I heard Windows Phone did not allow this in the past. Not sure if things have changed.
