i have been getting the infamous 8018830f (update can download but not be opened) on my lumia 520, it is on 8.0 right now and i have tried everything, removing sd card, restoring phone, leaving screen on etc. im currently not in the development program, so im just wondering what other suggestions i can try to get it updated to denim

Then have you tried Windows Phone Recovery Tool?

I can certainly say that if you are willing to flash a ROM then it would definitely work, not sure if you are comfortable with that approach though

i thought the lumia recovery and windows phone recovery was one in the same? im comfortable flashing a rom, didnt even think that was possible

Windows phone recovery tool is a separate program. And it can be used to restore/flash original firmware.

Since you're willing to flash, let me start by asking, what carrier is your phone?

i have att

EDIT:finally got it working in windows phone recovery, but now its stuck on reading phone information. i might jst have to flash rom

In that case you can flash the Mexico LTA ROM, it's unbranded and has Denim (no firmware only OS)

ok i an do that, are there any instructions on how to do so
There is a sticky with video instructions in the 920 forums which covers how to dead flash a 920, you can replicate it for your 520. You model variant is RM-915 so search for Lumia 520 Product Code and look for the RM-915 variant.

Edit: You can flash this firmware product code:
059S2X9 RM-915 VAR BR CV

You'll have more insight after watching the video. The process is safe if done carefully. And I've personally used the above firmware on 2 of my 520s and they were stable and completely unbranded.

Good luck!

Same problem with me guys. Unable to install w10 on my lumia 520. The update is downloading but not installing. Anyone know how to solve this issue. :\
