Help needed regarding apps on memory card

I am using lumia 520 and updated OS upto the version of 8.10.12397.895

recently i bought a memory card of 32gb and installed many apps on it.. it is a 32GB transcend, and installed apps upto 12GB .. I didnt updated the OS intentionally since i was busy from past three months..
now my doubt is about the apps on memory card, if i updated OS it will obviously take more time to restart the phone completing migrating data etc etc processes which occurs during the update.. so to avoid this can i remove my card and update the phone? and after updating, can i simply put the card back again in the phone with all the apps i installed in it now? will the apps work normally after putting card back after completing the update?

As long as you remove the sd card from the system before ejecting it, there'll be no issues. But I can tell you that it doesn't have the slightest effect on data migration during the update process, if the card is inserted or not. Data migration is done on the phone's internal memory alone.

Open storage sense and tap on sd card. Scroll down and you'll find an option "remove sd card" or so. Use this before ejecting the card from your device.
